Why do I have to pay the bill on an injured stray that I took in and then brought to the Clinic?

At Jackson Veterinary Clinic we are faced with these types of cases on a regular basis. We try to work out a satisfactory arrangement with the person who wants to pursue treatment for the injured animal. However, making a decision to take in a stray should only be done with the careful thought that is involved in buying an animal. Unfortunately, veterinary expenses can not be based on the method by which a pet is acquired. If you can not accept financial responsibility for a stray animal, it should be taken to the local animal control office. Remember that if you “adopt” or “take in” an animal, you become the owner, responsibility of the bill will be yours. Hopefully, a healthy animal is your reward for trying to do the right thing.
